NCLEX-PN: National Council Licensure Examination

This examination is treated as a way to obtain license. A nurse with a valid license gets the permission to perform nursing. This examination is a part owned by National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN). The examination is administered by NCSBN which works on behalf of its board which has boards of nursing in four U.S territories (Guam, Virgin Islands, American Samoa and Northern Mariana Islands), 50 states and the District of Columbia. NCSBN is the governing body which has the rights to change the structure of the examination. The exams are changed on a regular basis considering the changes in the current practices of nursing. The analysis of chances in the practices of nursing is done by considering 12,000 licensed nurses. The nursing activities are analyzed based on the frequency of occurrence of an activity, impact of the activity on the safety of a client and the place where the activities happen. These analyses happen once in three years and the exam pattern and structure is modified based on the results of the analysis. Recently the changes were done in 2013.
